DLSU-D, TIP Battle For NCRUCLAA Women’s Volley Glory

NCRUCLAA on Facebook     DASMARINAS CITY – Undefeated sides De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and Technological Institute of the Philippines arranged a titanic confrontation for the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) Women’s Volleyball championship after they swept their respective semifinal opponents at the Ugnayang La Salle inside the DLSU-D campus.

Despite enjoying the home court advantage, the Lady Patriots conceded the opening set but displayed fine form to win the next three sets and eliminate the Rizal Technological University Lady Thunder, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17.  In the next match, the Lady Engineers had an easier time over the Philippine Merchant Marine School Lady Mariners, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-20.

DLSU-D has now won eight straight matches while TIP is on a seven-match roll.  The Lady Patriots were part of the six-team Group B while the Lady Engineers were in the five-team Group A during the single-round elimination phase.

Meanwhile, the Patriots were not as lucky as their female counterparts as they bowed anew to RTU in four sets in the day’s opening match.  The Blue Thunder thus claimed the first championship berth in the Men’s Division with scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17.

RTU will have to wait for their opponent after National College of Business and Arts stalled the advance of PMMS and inflicting the Mariners’ first defeat of the tournament after winning their first six outings.  Scores were 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 and 27-25.

The rubber match between PMMS and NCBA will be played this Saturday (April 1).  With reports from Zedrick Simeon/HF.
