PARANAQUE CITY – PATTS College of Aeronautics blasted De Ocampo Memorial College, 93-89, to level their best-of-three semfinal series of the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) Seniors Basketball tournament at the Olivarez College Coliseum Wednesday morning (March 22). The deciding Game Three is set for Friday (March 24) at the same venue with an 8:00 AM tip off.
The Seahorses also dealt the Cobras their first loss of the season after winning their first nine assignments including Game One last Monday, 102-101. Starting center Neilmore Cayson returned to the line-up after serving a suspension in the last game and he immediately made an impact by partnering with surprise starter Jestoni Loyola with a combined eight points in towing PATTS to the lead after one period, 22-10.
The Cobras played catch-up basketball, patiently creeping back into contention with Dahrell Caranguian finally connecting on his first triple of the game to tie the count at 84-84 with 1:48 to play. PATTS would briefly regain the lead but Harold Lescano came out of nowhere to even the score for the last time via a side triple at the 54-second mark, 87-87.
John Paul Manansala then saved his best effort for crunch time as he drove strong to the basket for an easy two points and giving the edge back to PATTS, 89-87. DOMC then failed in its next possession after which Joshua Diaz and Cayson iced the game from the free throw line.
Manansala led the Seahorses by scoring nine of his 22 points in the fourth period. Cayson was next with 18 while Loyola popped in 17 after going scoreless in Game One.
Caranguian fired away from all angles to pace the Cobras with 30 points. Jhonard Clarito shook off a muscle injury to chip in 12 while Redel Fabro knocked in 10 before picking up his fifth foul midway through the final period.
