Pasig To Host Summer Collegiate Tilt

Buddy Encarnado

CHAMPION TEAMS will converge from April 21 to 27 at the Sumilang Covered Court in Pasig City for the Santa Rosa de Lima Parish Summer Invitational Cup.  Held in commemoration of the 400th death anniversary of patroness Saint Rose of Lima, the weeklong tournament offers the teams the chance to hone up and test their new recruits for the coming seasons of their respective mother leagues.

“We want to make our parish fiesta a fun-filled activity for all and help these teams develop a fan base of their own,” said head organizer and former PBA Chairman Buddy Encarnado.  Only the first ten teams that confirmed participation were accepted.

NAASCU champion Saint Clare College of Caloocan will headline Group A together with NCRAA champion Philippine Merchant Marine School, Technological Institute of the Philippines, AMA University and City University of Pasay.  UCBL champion Centro Escolar University banners Group B joined by UCSAA champion Manuel L. Quezon University, Philippine Christian University, De Ocampo Memorial College and Enderun Colleges.

After a single round robin among themselves, the top two in each group will advance to the crossover semifinals followed by the championship game on the 27th.  Four games will be played daily during the eliminations starting at 1:00 PM.

As an added treat, PBA legends have been invited for an exhibition game on the tournament’s final day.  Expect several alumni from the Santa Lucia Realtors, the team Mr. Encarnado handled during his PBA days, to grace the All-Star game as well as other surprise players from other franchises.
