RTU Back-To-Back Cheer Champs

RTU now has back-to-back NAASCU Cheerleading titles.

NAASCU on Facebook     MAKATI CITY – Rizal Technological University bested four other squads to retain the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Cheerleading championship Wednesday afternoon (March 8) at the Makati Coliseum.  An aggressive and daring performance more than made up for their penalties as they scored 360.0 out of a possible 480.0 points.

Taking the floor last, the Blue Thunder got the highest scores in all four categories of Tosses, Stunts, Pyramids and Tumbling.  That was enough to cushion the impact of their 36.0 penalties that was also tops among all participants.

Coming in at Second Place was perennial crowd favorite City University of Pasay with 347.5.  The Eagle Squad had the cleanest routine with the fewest penalties at 10.0 but failed to impress the judges enough to give them back the title they last won in the 2012-2013 season.

A surprise Third Place was New Era University with 306.0 points.  Rounding out the field were former champion Our Lady of Fatima University and Saint Clare College of Caloocan.

The completion of the Cheerleading Competition officially brings to a close another successful season of the NAASCU.  League chairperson Dr. Ernesto Jay Adalem expressed his pleasure over the many gains in the past year and added that the board is already beginning the groundwork for the 17th NAASCU in the coming academic year 2017-2018.
