PASAY CITY – Arellano University is back as the champions of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Cheerleading Thursday (March 9) at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. It was redemption for the Chiefs Squad who failed to retain their title last season after winning it all two years ago.
“We focused on our execution,” said winning coach Lucky San Juan. “We may not be very good in tumbling, stunts or pyramid building but our execution did it.”
Coach San Juan added that their preparations began a week after they lost the crown to University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta. The daily practices paid off as the team shook off both personal and injury problems en route to the victory.
Dethroned champion Perps Squad took Second Place as they continue to search for the elusive 10th Cheerleading crown. The score was not even close as Arellano tallied 218.0 points compared to the Perps’ 199.5.
Taking Third Place was former champion Mapua Institute of Technology with 191.0 points. Also fielding entries were San Beda College, Emilio Aguinaldo College, College of Saint Benilde, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Jose Rizal University.
The Cheerleading Competition also served as the formal closing ceremonies for the 92nd NCAA Season. San Beda College formally turned over hosting duties for the 93rd season to San Sebastian College.
