NCRUCLAA: PATTS d. RTU, 76-72

NCRUCLAA on Facebook     PARANAQUE CITY – PATTS College of Aeronautics continued to soar up the standings of the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) by chalking up their fourth win in a row by trumping visiting Rizal Technological University, 76-72, at the A. R. Valdez Hall Thursday (February 23).  John Paul Manansala was his usual explosive step but timely plays by Jayson Orada in the final minutes saved the day for the Seahorses who managed to tie their opponents at Third Place in Group A at 4-2.

Cyrus Tabi arrived late in the second period together with Coach Johnedel Cardel from a tournament in Batangas and their arrival provided drama to the contest.  Tabi was inserted with two minutes left in the second period but made his mark in the second half as he powered RTU’s vicious rally from as much as 20 points down, 14-34, and gave the Blue Thunder the lead for the first time via triple with 1:14 remaining in the contest, 72-71.

PATTS was not to be denied on their home floor as Joshua Diaz tied the game with a free and Orada picked up the missed second attempt for the go-ahead basket at the 57-second mark, 74-72.  After a botched RTU possession, Orada then sank two more pressure-packed charities for the final tally and their defense stepped up to break up the ensuing RTU possession to preserve the win.

Orada scored six points in the final period to up his total to 15 points on top of 10 rebounds.  Manansala notched another double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds plus five assists.

Tabi scored all his 21 markers in the second half on top of five rebounds and two steals.  Kerr Bangeles backed up Tabi in their fourth period rally with 12 of his 16 points.
