PARANAQUE CITY – Olivarez College notched its second straight win at the National Capital Regional Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) by smashing Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 78-38, in continuing action Thursday (January 26) at the A. R. Valdez Hall of PATTS College of Aeronautics. The slow and defensive contest in the end favored the Sea Lions as they unleashed their might in the second period despite injuries to key players.
The Sea Lions’ stingy defense limited the Vanguard to only six points in the pivotal second period as they reversed their 6-10 deficit after the first. They hardly felt the sudden absence of center Jayboy Solis who had to exit early after he rolled his ankle and guard Pruvil Bermudes who sustained a thigh injury.
The Vanguard never recovered from their second period debacle and different Sea Lions took turns at continuing their attack. Slowly but surely, the lead ballooned up to as much as 40 points, more than double the Vanguard output.
Vinny Begaso stepped up in Solis’ absence with 10 points and eight rebounds for Player of the Game honors. Lordy Geronimo came off the bench to also hit 10 and grab four rebounds.
No EAC player hit twin figures with Faustine Agillon the high man with only nine points and five rebounds. Nino de los Santos followed with eight points and four rebounds as they absorbed their second straight loss to begin the 16-school tournament.
