NAASCU on Facebook     INTENSE VOLLEYBALL action returns this February 4 with the opening of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) tournaments at the Rizal Technological University Gym in Mandaluyong City.  Opening day venue host RTU is the defending champion in both the Women’s and Men’s Divisions and they are aiming for nothing less than return to the top.

Aside from the regular members, the league will be welcoming back Holy Angel University into the fold as a guest team after an eight-year absence.  The Pampanga-based school took a leave after Season 8 in 2008-2009 and hopes to make it back as a regular member by the start of the 17th season come the next academic year.

Also making a return is Our Lady of Fatima University, which skipped last year’s tournaments.  RTU, HAU and Fatima will be joined in the nine-team Women’s Division by last year’s runner-up Philippine Merchant Marine School, AMA University, New Era University, Philippine Christian University, Saint Clare College of Caloocan and first-time participant Colegio de San Lorenzo.

The RTU Blue Thunder will also aim for a Volleyball back-to-back.

All teams in the Women’s Division will field entries in the Men’s Division except for Saint Clare thus making it an eight-team field.  Nestor Bello has been appointed Commissioner for Volleyball.

The schedules for the remaining second semester sports will be announced soon.  Events on tap include Athletics, Swimming, Chess, Taekwondo, Badminton and Table Tennis.
