PARANAQUE CITY – Philippine School of Business Administration went through the wringer before outlasting Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 66-57, at the resumption of the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) Basketball tournament at the A. R. Valdez Hall of PATTS College of Aeronautics Thursday afternoon (January 19). Big plays down the stretch by Christian Daguro and Mark Anthony Briones saved the day for the Jaguars of Coach Philip Cezar.
The tight defensive contest seemed to favor the Jaguars, eking out the win despite shooting a paltry 26 of 85 from the field. Daguro and Briones combined six unanswered points in a span of less than a minute to give PSBA an unassailable 64-54 advantage with 27 seconds to play.
For overall brilliance, Daguro was adjudged as Best Player with 11 of his 15 points coming in the second half on top of nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Johndel Velasco followed with 13 points.
Elmer Yumul topped the Vanguard of Coach Azlie Guro with 10 points and 13 rebounds but was held scoreless in the pivotal fourth period. JJ Dultra was next with nine points and four assists.
Although the Vanguard shot the ball better, 26 out of 85, they shot themselves in the foot by giving up 28 turnovers against the 25 of their opponents. PSBA also won in the hustle categories of offensive rebounds (25-12) and second chance points (13-6).
