NCRUCLAA: Olivarez d. PATTS, 79-77 (OT)

NCRUCLAA on Facebook     PASAY CITY – Center Jayboy Solis provided the heroics as he gave Olivarez College the tough overtime win over PATTS College of Aeronautics, 79-77, on opening day of the 2017 National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) at the Cuneta Astrodome Tuesday (January 17).  Solis scored off an offensive rebound of a missed free throw by teammate Vinny Begaso with nine seconds left in the extension for the marginal basket.

Solis was also responsible for sending the game into overtime thanks to a triple at the 16-second mark of regulation, 70-70.  He finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks to easily earn Best Player honors.

Guard Pruvil Bermudes also knocked in 23 points to power the Sea Lions’ early attack.  Begaso chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.

It was a sorry loss for the Seahorses who fought back from as much as 15 points down late in the first half, 20-35, behind John Paul Manansala and Neil Cayson.  Manansala highlighted his game with a three-point play that gave PATTS the 70-67 advantage in the fourth period before Solis’ triple.

Manansala led the Seahorses with 16 of his 28 points coming in the fourth period and overtime to go with nine rebounds and four steals but he missed the potential game-winning triple at the overtime buzzer.  Cayson followed with 21 points and seven rebounds.
