PASAY CITY – Philippine State College of Aeronautics stopped the charge of host school Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, 96-83, in the opening game of the 2017 National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) at the Cuneta Astrodome Tuesday afternoon (January 17). Guard Mark Louie Jimenez stepped up big time with 13 points in the fourth period to key the win for the Iron Eagles.
After losing top scorer Arvin Patricio to five fouls with still five minutes to play and trailing by two points, 74-76, Jimenez went to work by presiding over PhilSCA’s dizzying 22-7 windup. Jimenez hit the go-ahead triple, 78-77, and they never looked back as he drew help from teammates Rodelle Bilar and Dan Ramos.
Patricio entered the record books by hitting the first basket in league history via a three-point play off Christian Roblo. Patricio then engaged AIMS top gunner Christian Arcenal in an epic shootout but Arcenal got the last laugh as he fished the foul the resulted in Patricio’s disqualification.
Bilar topped the Iron Eagles with 23 points. Jimenez followed with 22 points, four assists and six steals while Patricio also had 22 points on top of 12 rebounds and six assists.
Arcenal ended up with a game-high 33 points and 20 rebounds but had 10 turnovers. Karole Gancayco was next with 13 markers.
