THE NATIONAL Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) has formally named Arturo Cristobal as its Commissioner for Basketball. Cristobal immediately accepted the appointment after meeting with league officials Thursday afternoon (January 12).
The new Commissioner carries with him a wealth of experience in handling similar capacities with other collegiate and commercial leagues. Referees from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will officiate the games using the latest FIBA rules as amended.
Cristobal first made a name for himself as a player and later as a coach. He played professionally from 1981 to 1991 for teams like Crispa, Shell, Purefoods and Presto averaging 6.3 points over 433 games.
As a coach, he once was in charge of the Women’s National Team and collegiate teams at San Sebastian College, University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta, Lyceum of the Philippines University and his alma mater Far Eastern University. On the commercial scene, he handled Chowking in the defunct PBL.
The 60-year old Commissioner will now buckle down to work and prepare for the league’s opening ceremonies on January 17, 2017 (Tuesday) at the Cuneta Astrodome.
