THE NATIONAL Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) is out to prove that they are more than just Basketball by simultaneously staging other sporting disciplines. Leading the way will be Volleyball that has attracted 12 teams in the Women’s and 10 more in the Men’s Division.
Action at the net is expected to be exciting and intense as many of the teams have compiled impressive resumes in their previous varsity leagues sprinkled with a bit of commercial experience. The twin tournaments open serve immediately after the league’s formal opening ceremonies at Pasay City’s Cuneta Astrodome on January 17, 2017.
The teams will be divided into two equal groups and play a round robin amongst themselves. The top four in each group advance to the playoffs.
The Women’s Group A will consist of Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, Colegio de San Lorenzo, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, Rizal Technological University, Technological Institute of the Philippines and University of Makati. Group B will be made up of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, National College of Business and Arts, PATTS College of Aeronautics, Philippine Merchant Marine School, Philippine School of Business Administration and Saint Francis of Assisi College System.
Meanwhile, Group A of the Men’s Division features AIMS, DLSU-D, NCBA, RTU and Philippine State College of Aeronautics. Group B has CDSL, EAC-C, PATTS, PMMS and UMak as entries.
Prospective athletes for both tournaments were subjected to screening together with athletes from Basketball last December 15 at the AIMS Case Room. The NCRUCLAA is also laying down plans for competitions in 3X3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Chess, Table Tennis, Badminton and Cheerleading all to be completed within the current academic year.
