RTU, Enderun In Women’s Finals

NAASCU on Facebook     MAKATI CITY – Rizal Technological University and Enderun Colleges arranged a date for the Women’s Division championship of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) by hurdling separate foes at the Makati Coliseum Monday morning (October 3).  Both sides showed their class above the rest by blowing out the opposition early.

Enderun banked anew on the all-around game of Ella Rodriguez to eliminate AMA University, 81-50.  Later on, RTU went to a balanced attack to send Philippine Merchant Marine School to the sidelines, 74-57.

Rodriguez scored seven points in the opening period and nine more in the second as Enderun easily took the first half, 50-33.  By the second half, Coach Haydee Ong began to use more of her role players but the result remained the same as their defense limited the opposition to only 17 markers.

Rodriguez led all scorers with 18 points.  Also hitting double figures were Joylyn Pangilinan with 12 and Shen Callangan and Princess Abigail Manzanares with 10 each.

The Lady Thunder of Coach Julian “Gogoy” Bagares III were more merciless in their rout of the Lady Mariners.  Veterans Rogelyn Inoferio and Crislyn Mier combined for 13 points in the opening period as they raced to a 24-8 advantage and were never threatened.

Jeremiah Yonzon topped the Lady Thunder with 11 points.  Mier and Janine Daguman followed with eight points each with eight other teammates chipping in four or more points each.

Enderun and RTU will begin their best-of-three titular showdown on October 11 at the Makati Coliseum.  AMA will be awarded Third Place as there will be no more playoff.
