NAASCU: September 22 Juniors Recap

NAASCU on Facebook     QUEZON CITY – Saint Clare College of Caloocan rocked the penultimate game day of the Juniors Division of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) by upsetting undefeated Rizal Technological University, 96-80, at the AMA University Gym last Tuesday (September 22).  More importantly, the Junior Saints wrested the temporary league leadership via tiebreak from the Junior Thunder as both squads now tote 7-1 win-loss records.

Raymart Lumabas connected on three triples in the fourth period to help turn the close contest wide open.  Mark Christian Yu and Paul Hendrix Casin carried the fight through the first three periods for the Junior Saints finishing with 21 and 22 points respectively.

Equally impressive was Our Lady of Fatima University which kept in step with the leaders by dismantling Philippine Merchant Marine School, 81-71.  Angelito Eugenio made seven triples en route to 23 points while VJ Alarcon had seven of his 14 points in the fourth period as the Junior Phoenix effectively neutralized the 32-point effort of 6’7” Junior Mariner Amonique Kue.

In other games, Colegio de San Lorenzo registered only their second win of the season by beating Manuel L. Quezon University, 74-69.  Host team AMA then slipped past Philippine Christian University, 79-77, and New Era University kept De Ocampo Memorial College winless, 94-52.

Tuesday’s results also settled the list of playoff qualifiers led by the Saint Clare, RTU, Our Lady of Fatima, AMA, PMMS and New Era.  Their final rankings and seedings will be determined upon completion of the final five games this Monday still at AMA.

The top two teams will be seeded into the semifinals with the remaining four teams going through separate twice to beat quarterfinal series.  The championship series will be a best of three affair.
