NAASCU: September 20 Juniors Recap

NAASCU on Facebook     MANDALUYONG CITY – Rizal Technological University continued to lord over the Juniors Division of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) after beating Philippine Merchant Marine School, 70-54, last Tuesday (September 20) at the RTU Gym.  The Junior Thunder of Coach Arlene Rodriguez now tote an unblemished 7-0 win-loss card, their best performance since joining the league four seasons ago.

Jonathan Boholano, Philip Redondo and John Marino Haboc again delivered the key baskets in the fourth period to insure the win for the home side.  Redondo went on the lead the Junior Thunder with 13 points followed by Noy Pragoso with 12.

New Era provided the biggest shocker of the day by upsetting Our Lady of Fatima University, 85-81.  The Junior Phoenix were holding a commanding 68-50 lead after three periods but New Era erased the deficit with guard Jeff Comia presiding as he scattered 12 of his side’s 33 points including six crucial free throws.

Comia finished with 24 points as New Era improved to 3-4 and stay in contention for the playoffs.  The Phoenix dropped to 5-2 and Third Place.

In other games, Saint Clare College of Caloocan routed Philippine Christian University, 100-88, and AMA University got the better of Colegio de San Lorenzo, 84-72.  In the nightcap, Manuel L. Quezon University kept De Ocampo Memorial College winless, 89-69.
