NAASCU: RTU d. Enderun, 71-52

NAASCU on Facebook     MANDALUYONG CITY – Rizal Technological University emerged as the top seed after completion of the Women’s Division elimination round of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Tuesday (September 20) at the RTU Gym.  The Lady Thunder clipped the Enderun Colleges Lady Titans, 71-52, in a meeting of undefeated teams.

Angelica Jaberto got the ball rolling quickly by hitting a pair of triples in the first period as RTU raced to a 21-13 lead.  While the game was close and intense, the Lady Thunder broke the game wide open in the fourth period as a fine defensive job limited Enderun to only nine markers.

Jaberto led all scorers with 23 points via seven triples. Crislyn Mier scored 10 of her 12 points in the fourth period breakaway while Wiz Duazo also knocked in 12 points.

The Lady Thunder of Coach Julian “Gogoy” Bagares III thus swept all their five elimination games.  The will meet fourth seed Philippine Merchant Marine School in the crossover semifinals armed with a twice to beat advantage.

Ella Rodriguez again led Enderun with 15 points but she was held scoreless in the fourth period.  The trio of Shen Callangan, Princess Abigail Manzanares and Joylyn Pangilinan followed with eight points apiece.

Enderun will also enjoy the same twice to beat advantage in their own semifinal series against AMA University.  The two series winners will square off in a best of three series for the championship.

RIZAL TECHNOLOGICAL (71) – Jaberto 23, Mier 12, Duazo 12, Canales 6, Inoferio 6, Dionisio 4, Castillano 4, Ybanez 2, Yonzon 2, Pocallan 0.

ENDERUN (52) – Rodriguez 15, Callangan 8, Manzanares 8, Pangilinan 8, Pumaren 4, Marcos 2, Liao 0.

Period Scores: 21-13, 30-27, 52-43, 71-52.
