MAKATI CITY – Our Lady of Fatima University continued its slow rise to the top of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) after they kept City University of Pasay as the only winless team in the tournament via a 88-74 decision. Thanks in part to the upsets posted earlier in the day, the Third Place Phoenix (8-3) now trail pacesetters Enderun Colleges (8-2) and Saint Clare College of Caloocan (7-2) by a half-game.
Guard Miguel Bryan Cabrera set the tone early for the easy win by scoring nine quick points in the first period and a 23-16 lead. Because of that, Cabrera received his third straight Best Player award in as many games by totalling 12 points, three assists and five steals.
Jerome Juanico paced the Phoenix with 17 points. They also drew good games from John Rovin Datu and Jess Pedrosa who combined for 23 points together.
James Solero led the way for the Eagles with 18 points. He was aided by Adrian Gatchalian and 18 and Jayvee de la Cruz with 17.
