NAASCU: September 15 Women’s Recap

NAASCU on Facebook     MANDALUYONG CITY – A three-way tie for the last two playoff berths ensued after the results of the penultimate day of the Women’s Division of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) at the Rizal Technological University Gym Thursday (September 15).  In the end, AMA University and Philippine Merchant Marine School got the tiebreaker to join early qualifiers RTU and Enderun Colleges.

Our Lady of Fatima University complicated things thwarting the PMMS Lady Mariners, 68-65.  Hence, both squads joined idle AMA in the logjam with identical 2-3 win-loss cards.

Ann Kristel Escotido led the way for the Lady Phoenix with 19 points and was joined by three other teammates in twin digits.  The team effort easily neutralized the 38-point effort of Emily Dumago who a virtual one-woman army for the Lady Mariners.

Applying the quotient by dividing the points scored by the opponents’ points in the games involving the three teams, AMA (1.165) and PMMS (1.029) eliminated the Lady Phoenix (0.800).

In the main game, home team RTU matched the 4-0 record of Enderun Colleges by blasting Saint Clare College of Caloocan, 94-50.  Ira Canales presided over the easy win with 15 points as the Lady Saints ended their campaign without a win to show in five games.

RTU and Enderun will meet on September 20 at the RTU Gym for the right to be the undefeated top seed.  Both teams will also have a twice to beat advantage over their semifinal opponents AMA and PMMS with the series winners advancing to the best of three championship series.
