NAASCU: September 13 Juniors Recap

NAASCU on Facebook     MANDALUYONG CITY – Rizal Technological University continued its grip on the solo leadership of the Juniors Division of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) basketball tournament after stopping Colegio de San Lorenzo, 68-58, last Tuesday (September 13) at their home floor.  Closest pursuers Our Lady of Fatima University and Saint Clare College of Caloocan stayed a game behind after beating separate opponents.

The Junior Thunder banked on the good plays of John Marino Haboc and Jonathan Boholano who combined for 35 points.  RTU is now 5-0 and became the first team to be assured of a playoff berth.

Our Lady of Fatima went through anxious moments before prevailing over a dangerous AMA University, 81-78.  Angelito Eugenio paced the Junior Phoenix with 16 followed by Nikko Pollo Panganiban with 13.

Meanwhile, the Junior Saints had an easier time in disposing of De Ocampo Memorial College in the nightcap, 92-68.  Mark Christia Yu led the way for Saint Clare with 14 points while Kristan Hernandez added 13.

In other completed games, New Era University clipped the Manuel L. Quezon University Colts, 89-86.  Philippine Merchant Marine School defeated the Philippine Christian University Baby Dolphins, 90-67, with 6’7” Cameroonian teenager Amonique Kue scattering 22 points.
