NAASCU: September 8 Juniors Recap

NAASCU on Facebook     TAGUIG CITY – Suddenly, Rizal Technological University is enjoying its best season ever in the Juniors Division of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Basketball games.  The Junior Thunder waylaid De Ocampo Memorial College, 96-46, for their fourth win in a row last Thursday (September 8) at the Enderun Colleges campus.

Aldrine Badong had 15 and Jonathan Boholano added 10 to lead a balanced attack.  RTU’s ascent to the top was aided in the day’s opener as Our Lady of Fatima University took down erstwhile undefeated co-leader Saint Clare College of Caloocan, 86-80, behind the strong fourth period plays of Jack Hoyohoy and VJ Alarcon.

However, the day’s most exciting game was provided by Philippine Christian University and Colegio de San Lorenzo which needed overtime before PCU prevailed, 93-89.  Despite the loss, Junior Griffin Jan Dominic Formento set a new season Juniors scoring record of 42 points.

In other games, AMA University sneaked past New Era University, 79-76.  Manuel L. Quezon University entered the win column by trouncing Philippine Merchant Marine School, 70-65.

The top two teams after the single round robin elimination will be seeded directly into the semifinals wherein they await the survivors of the two quarterfinal series featuring the third to sixth-ranked teams.  The finals will be a best-of-three affair.
