TAGUIG CITY – Lyceum of Subic Bay made easy work of City University of Pasay, 96-84, at the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Wednesday night at the Enderun Colleges Gym. The Sharks of Coach Kerwin McCoy continue to impress in their return season with their fourth win in five games.
The best that the Eagles could offer was jump to a 3-0 lead. From there, it was an all-Sharks showcase as they asserted their size and speed advantage to the hilt, leading by as much as 21 points in the just before the halftime break, 47-26.
Playing on his birthday, Edsel Saludo came off the bench and burned the hoops for a team-high 16 points, 12 made in the second period run, on top of seven rebounds to earn the Best Player award. Starters Armando Timpog and Kevin Falaminiano set the tone with 14 points each.
Edgar Erice paced the Eagles with 15 points. Jayvee de la Cruz was next with 13 points as they dropped their fifth straight assignment to share the bottom of the standings with Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science of Technology at 0-5.
The win though came at a cost as LSB’s other birthday celebrant Kevin Pelaez was thrown out with 3:23 left in the third period after committing a flagrant foul. He will miss the Sharks’ next game later today (September 8) at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Gym when they host the visiting Our Lady of Fatima University Phoenix in a lone game starting at 5:00 PM.
After tonight’s encounter, the NAASCU will return to Subic on September 17 (Saturday) with all 14 member schools seeing action in a heavy seven-game bill. The league has also planned a few side events like a slam dunk contest, three-point shootout and other surprises to spice up the one-day collegiate basketball festival.
