NAASCU: Saint Clare d. RTU, 90-82

NAASCU on Facebook     MAKATI CITY – Season host Saint Clare College of Caloocan gained a share of the leadership of the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and University (NAASCU) by disposing of Rizal Technological University, 90-82.  The Saints now join the surprising Enderun Colleges Titans as the league’s only undefeated teams at 5-0.

While the Saints’ winning streak continued, Aris Dionisio’s string of four consecutive Best Player citations came to an end after teammate Paeng Rebugio got the nod by amassing 18 points but these points came at timely phases of the game that helped snuff RTU’s rallies.  Rebugio also had to work double after Coach Jino Manansala suspended his fellow guards Irven Palencia, Russell Fuentes and Michael de Leon for being tardy that game.

The final margin does not speak of the Saints’ dominance, at one time leading by as high as 24 markers in the third period, 57-33.  From there, the Blue Thunder slowly chipped away from their deficit with Storm Riva and Johndel Flores.

Far from a triple double this time, Dionisio still had decent numbers of 16 points and nine rebounds.  Also hitting heavily was Mark Puspus with 10 points and 11 rebounds as he ably filled in for the foul riddled Steve Fongue.

Kerr Bangeles led all scorers with 20 points.  Tabi bucked a scoreless first period to finish with 16 points on top of six rebounds.

Enderun and Saint Clare will break their tie at the top when the Titans play host to the Saints on September 6 (Wednesday) at the Enderun Colleges Gym in Taguig City.  Game time is set at 8:00 AM with tickets available at the gate for only PHP 60.00.
