MANDALUYONG CITY – The hyped clash between two undefeated squads fizzled out as Saint Clare College clearly dominated Our Lady of Fatima University, 71-54, at the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) basketball games at the Rizal Technological University Gym Friday (September 2). The Saints led all the way from the opening tip to notch their fourth win in a many games and solo leadership of the tournament.
Super substitute Aris Dionisio once again excelled in multiple statistical categories as he joined Rojay Santos in giving Saint Clare their biggest lead of the game late in the third period, 52-27. The Phoenix campaign hit a roadblock after leading scorer Martin Gozum rolled his ankle early in the opening period, only to reinjure it upon returning in the third and never returned.
Dionisio led all scorers with 18 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks and two steals for his fourth Best Player award. Santos hit four second half triples that broke the spirits of the Phoenix en route to 14 points.
