NAASCU: RTU d. San Lorenzo, 82-75

NAASCU on Facebook     MANDALUYONG CITY – This time, Rizal Technological University did not disappoint their loyal fans.  The partisan crowd at the school gym left a happy bunch after their Blue Thunder carved out an 82-75 win over the visiting Colegio de San Lorenzo at the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) last Friday (September 2).

Guards Cyrus Tabi and Storm Riva proved solid and steady down the stretch by sinking all their 12 combined free throws in the final six minutes to assure the win and snap their two-game losing skid for an even 2-2 win-loss card.  Tabi hit six straight gift shots to restore RTU’s 10-point lead with 4:43 to go, 72-62.

That was enough cushion despite a final rally that saw the Griffins come to within four points entering the last two minutes, 70-74.  Roque Estoce snuffed the rally with a layup and Tabi and Riva continued to make free throws and send the visitors to their third consecutive loss and a 1-3 slate.

Tabi ended up with 27 points, six rebounds and four assists in another powerful all-around performance.  Kerr Bangeles followed with 11 points and 11 rebounds as they bounced back from their 61-72 defeat to the visiting Enderun Colleges Titans two days earlier.

Jun Gabriel came off the bench to score 19 points and grab 12 rebounds for the Griffins.  Kenneth Carongoy also came off the bench to add 14 in the losing effort.
