THE WAR against illegal drugs rages on as the Philippine National Police (PNP) in partnership with the Pinoy Aspiring Runners (PAR) will stage “The Running Addict: Takbo Kontra Ilegal Na Droga” on October 16, 2016 (Sunday) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines grounds starting at 4:00 AM. Proceeds from the fun run will go to the PNP’s rehabilitation program for drug addicts.
Deviating from the usual fun runs, participants are required to go through a series of obstacles throughout the five and three-kilometer routes. They will also be made to wear ribbons around their waste which they must protect from roving marshals who will attempt to grab them and finish with at least one left to qualify for prizes.
Registration is now ongoing at Sports House branches located in SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM City North EDSA and SM City Bacoor, Garmin Store in Glorietta V and at the Police Community Relations Group inside Camp Crame, Quezon City. Fees are PHP 600.00 for five kilometers and PHP 500.00 for three kilometers which will also have a special barefoot category.
All race kits will have an event shirt and a race bib. Medals await all finishers.
Celebrity policemen PO2 Mariano Flormata (aka Neil Perez) and PO1 Don McGyver Cochico have endorsed the event and will make an appearance on race day along with PNP mascot PO1 Bato. Both the PNP and PAR have prepared more surprise guests and activities.
“This activity will ultimately develop a strong partnership between the PNP and the running community,” said PAR President Joseph Balbino. “It is important to educate the public on the ill-effects of drugs and encourage them to report illegal drug activities to the authorities.”
Ever since assuming office last June 30, President Rodrigo Duterte has unleashed an all-out war against illegal drugs. Running and sports are far better than doing drugs so join now.
