Multi-Sport Athletes Rule MILO Tarlac

#BuildChampions     TARLAC CITY – The country’s top multi-sport athletes hogged the limelight at the Tarlac qualifying leg of the 40th MILO Marathon held last Sunday (July 24).  Taking time off from competing in triathlons and duathlons, they showcased their running prowess over 21 kilometers in leading the pack of qualifiers for the National Finals set for December 4, 2016 in Iloilo City.

It was most evident in the Women’s Division were national duathlete Mirasol Abad topped the field in a time of 1:29:48.  Four seconds behind was top triathlete Monica Torres (1:29:48) while Abad’s teammate Miscelle Gilbuena took Third Place (1:33:58).

In the Men’s Division, Evelou Abutas stamped his class in 1:16:18.  National triathlete John Leerams “Rambo” Chicano checked in at Second Place (1:16:29) followed by Isagani Tacutaco (1:17:51).

The multi-sport athletes also made their mark in the side events.  Jelsie Sabado of the national junior team topped the Women’s 10-kilometer race while Emmanuel Commendador took Second Place in the Men’s Division.

A total of 51 men and 10 women out of 210 finishers earned tickets to the Nationals were prizes amounting to as much as PHP 300,000.00 await the MILO King and Queen.  A chance to compete in an overseas marathon awaits the top Filipino finishers.

All roads lead to the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City for the much-awaiting Metro Manila qualifiers this coming Sunday (July 31).  A virtual who’s who in the local running community will converge in what is perennially the biggest qualifying race based on attendance and competitiveness.

Other Winners: Jomar Ahgus and Jelsie Sabado (10 kilometers), Ricky Trupa and Merry Joy Tropa (five kilometers) and Glendwy Mariscotes and Joana Marie Gagarin (Three kilometers).
