D-League: Racal d. Phoenix, 90-88

2016 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Philip Paniamogan blasted a triple with three seconds left to give Racal Tiles the heart-stopping 90-88 triumph over Phoenix Petroleum and wrest the solo leadership of the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Tuesday (July 26). The Tile Masters now tote an 8-2 win-loss card and became the first team to be formally assured of a berth in the semifinal round.

Paniamogan’s trey capped a solid final period as he joined Dexter Maiquez, Billy Ray Robles and Joseph Terso in climbing from an eight-point deficit with five minutes to play, 73-81.  Terso hit a triple to give Racal the upper hand with 1:02 remaining, 87-85, but this was neutralized by another triple from Ed Daquioag with 11 ticks remaining, 88-87, before Paniamogan saved the day.

Maiquez scored seven of his team-high 15 points in the fourth period followed by Robles with 14.  Paniamogan ended up with 13 points, eight coming in the final canto.

The Tile Masters survived big performances from Roger Pogoy who made 22 points plus 10 rebounds and Mac Belo who added 20 after skipping their last game.  However, the high-scoring pair accounted for only six markers combined in the fourth period with Daquioag and Mike Tolomia keeping the Accelerators afloat.

PHOENIX PETROLEUM (88) – Pogoy 22, Belo 20, Tolomia 18, Daquioag 10, Mendoza 9, Tamsi 4, Escoto 3, Colina 2, Andrada 0, Inigo 0, Batino 0, Knuttel 0, Jamito 0.

Period Scores: 26-26, 44-43, 65-65, 90-88.
