THE SEARCH is on for a new Commissioner as the 16th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) opens shop on August 25 (Thursday) at the Cuneta Astrodome. A short list of basketball personalities from various backgrounds and generations has been formed with the choice eventually being tasked to lead the Philippines’ most dynamic and progressive varsity sports organization.
Heading the list is no less than the Living Legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski Sr. Also nominated are several gentlemen who have served as Commissioner of either collegiate or professional leagues in Noli Eala, Atty. Gregorio “Ogie” Narvasa, Atty. Chito Salud, Coach Bai Cristobal, Coach Joel Banal, Dr. Andy Jao and Atty. Rebo Saguisag.
Several of Jaworski’s teammates with the fabled Toyota Tamaraws have also drawn consideration in Ompong Segura and Orly Bauzon. From the younger set, the names of coaches Jude Roque and Nomar Isla are in along with NAASCU champion coach Victor Ycasiano.
Former NAASCU commissioners Boy Cahanding and Jose Sanchez have also been submitted. The new commissioner will select the officiating team for the coming season.

Quezon University, Philippine Merchant Marine School, Enderun Colleges, De Ocampo Memorial College and Colegio de San Lorenzo.
