PASIG CITY – Racal Tiles showed no mercy in slaying Blustar Detergent, 122-60, at the resumption of the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday afternoon (June 21). The Tile Masters allowed the Dragon to taste the lead briefly, 11-10, but a quick retaliation by Dexter Maiquez gave them the lead for good which they stretched and stretched beyond recall.
“I warned my players that the Malaysians are fast-improving as shown in their first three games,” said Coach Carlos Garcia. “Therefore, I reminded them to be consistent and maintain the energy on defense while showing that everyone can contribute.”
Following their Coach to the letter, six Tile Masters scored in double-figures while three more chipped in nine points each. Robby Celiz came off the bench to score nine of 17 points in the pivotal second period breakaway to pace Racal followed by Billy Ray Robles who made 12 of his 14 points in the final period.
The Tile Masters exploded for 34 points in the second period against only 15 by the Dragons for a commanding 58-28 halftime bulge. So unrelenting was Racal that they continued to stretch their margin with the Dragons offering minimal resistance.
Kuek Tian Yuan continued to lead Blustar with 15 points and seven rebounds. After sizzling with 34 points in the last game, Juami Tiongson was limited to only 12 points, same total as Ting Chun Hong who also grabbed eight rebounds.
Blustar, which features the core of the reigning ASEAN Basketball League champion Westports Malaysia Dragons, absorbed its fourth straight setback and will see action in the next three game days before returning home for a break. They will come back after two weeks to play the remaining five games of their elimination round schedule.
Meanwhile, the PBA D-League will hold an out-of-town game on Thursday (June 23) at the Revilla Gymnasium located on Molino Boulevard in Bacoor City, Cavite. Blustar and Topstar ZC Mindanao Aguilas search for their first win at 2:00 PM followed by the main game at 4:00 PM between Racal Tiles and Tanduay Rhum.
