FilOil: DLSU d. Far Eastern, 91-71

10th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – De La Salle University maintained its undefeated record and completed the semifinal cast of the 2016 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup by demolishing current UAAP champion Far Eastern University, 91-71, Tuesday (June 7) at the San Juan Arena.  It was total domination by the Green Archers as Benoit Mbala and Jeron Teng combined for 60 points in leading their charge.

So unforgiving were the Green Archers that they unleashed 17-4 run to close out the contest.  However, Teng had to exit with three minutes left after accidentally stepping on a defender’s foot.

“We look at this game as an ordinary game because its only the preseason,” said Coach Aldin Ayo.  “FEU came prepared with their adjustments so we also had to make our own.”

Mbala was too overpowering with 32 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.  Despite his injury, Teng finished with 28 points.     “It okay to lose today, we’ll just work on it in the next three months,” remarked Coach Nash Racela.  “At least our players were able to experience playing DLSU first hand.”

Raymar Jose led the Tamaraws with 13 points and five rebounds.  Monbert Arong had 10 of his 12 points in the first half.

The Green Archers’ win sets the stage for a rematch with archrival Ateneo de Manila in the semifinals this Friday (June 10).  The Blue Eagles look to avenge their 66-98 defeat to the Green Archers in the elimination round last May 29.
