Mighty Sports Streaks To 4-0

2016 PCBL Chairman's Cup     MARIKINA CITY – Two weeks into the 2016 Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL) Chairman’s Cup, Kiefer Ravena continues to improve and impress as he powered Mighty Sports to its fourth straight victory, an 80-67 mastery of Santa Lucia Realty last Friday (March 18) at the Marikina Sports Center. While Ravena and Mighty pace the seven-team field, Biyaheng SCTEX sent winless Euro-Med Laboratories further down the cellar with an 87-60 beating in the nightcap.

Ravena, a consensus first round pick in the coming pro league rookie draft, tallied a personal-best of 22 points on top of five rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes on the floor. Nigerian reinforcement Bright Akhuetie was likewise devastating with 18 points and 19 rebounds.

Mighty held a shaky 32-31 advantage at the halftime break and then allowed the Realtors to seize the upper hand early in the third canto, 34-32. Ravena then tied the game with a basket followed by a John Lopez triple that gave Mighty the lead for good with a good 8:40 remaining, 37-34.

Timely fourth period baskets by Akhuetie and Andrian Celada successfully repelled the Realtors’ repeated attempts to close in behind Jett Vidal, Jerald Bautista and Kent Salado. Santa Lucia paraded Prince Eze, Akhuetie’s countryman and teammate at the University of Perpetual Help, as their new import in lieu of Landry Sanjo.

Eze did not disappoint as he debuted with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Salado also had 15 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists.

After absorbing a heartbreaking 99-102 double overtime defeat against Foton Toplander in their PCBL debut, the Road Warriors called in the cavalry and vented their ire on Euro-Med. Raul Soyud, Byron Villarias and Alfred Batino completed their obligations with another league the day earlier and joined another new recruit in Pamboy Raymundo to even their win-loss record at 1-1.

Coach Adonis Tierra played the newcomers off the bench and their impact was immediately felt with Soyud pacing the Road Warriors with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Villarias nailed four triples en route to 17 points plus four rebounds.

Ola Adeogun topped Euro-Med with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks while Bong Galanza chipped in 21 points followed by Gwyne Capacio with 11. Sadly, the rest of the squad failed to meet their scoring averages.
