RTU One Away From Volley Double

NAASCU on Facebook   QUEZON CITY – The Rizal Technological University Lady Thunder is one step away from retaining its National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Women’s Volleyball title after fashioning a methodical 25-11, 25-23 and 25-16 thumping of guest team Philippine Merchant Marine School Lady Mariners last Monday (March 7) at the New Era University Gym. The Blue Thunder then duplicated their female counterparts’ feat by disposing of defending champion Centro Escolar University Scorpions in a three-setter, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-14.

Both RTU squads can complete the double celebration when they play Game Two on Wednesday at the CEU Gym in Mendiola starting at 3:00 PM. “Winning Game One is very important and as long as the players show the desire to win just like today, we will have no problem,” said Blue Thunder coach George Pascua.

Meanwhile, the Mariners and Lady Scorpions ended their seasons on a positive note by salvaging Third Place in their respective divisions. The Mariners bested season host New Era Hunters in straight sets, 25-17, 25-11 and 25-16, while the Lady Scorpions tamed the AMA University Lady Titans in four sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-14.

In other developments, the highly anticipated Cheering Competition will be held on March 11 (Friday) at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum starting at 1:00 PM. Centro Escolar is the defending champion.
