QUEZON CITY – It will have to wait until the final day of the 15th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Volleyball tournaments for Women and Men to determine all the playoff rankings after the completed matches Friday (February 26) at the New Era University Gym. The final day of the eliminations will be this Monday (February 29), still at NEU.
Centro Escolar University stayed undefeated by frustrating host New Era University, 25-9, 25-20 and 25-15. The Lady Scorpions now brace for a titanic showdown with fellow undefeated side and defending champion Rizal Technological University Lady Thunder for the top seeding.
AMA University likewise stayed in the playoff hunt with a straight set demolition of the Philippine Christian University Lady Dolphins, 25-7, 25-14 and 25-19. The Lady Titans are tied with the Huntresses at 2-3 for the final playoff slot and will play separate opponents on Monday.
The Philippine Merchant Marine School put one hand on their grip on the third seeding by prevailing over Saint Clare College of Caloocan, 19-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-9. All the Lady Mariners need to avoid any complications is to win over Huntresses.
In the Men’s Division, RTU exacted some payback as they pushed defending champion CEU to the brink of elimination in four sets, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-18. The Blue Thunder, last season’s losing finalist, remained undefeated in four matches while the Scorpions now face a must-win situation in their final assignment against the AMA Titans with the winner claiming the fourth and final seed.
NEU assured itself of a playoff berth while denying one to the Titans, 25-22, 25-21, 17-25 and 25-20. The Hunters final ranking and semifinal opponent will be known after Monday’s matches.
