RTU, PMMS, CEU Volleyball Midterm Leaders

NAASCU on Facebook     QUEZON CITY – Rizal Technological University continued to lord it over the field of the 15th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) Volleyball tournaments for Women and Men at the New Era University Gym. Both the Lady Thunder and Blue Thunder remained undefeated in their respective divisions at the halfway point of the tournament.

The defending champion Lady Thunder dismissed guest squad Philippine Merchant Marine School Lady Mariners last Thursday (February 11) in four sets, 26-24, 25-10, 23-25 and 25-15. They followed this up the next day with a three-set demolition of winless Philippine Christian University Lady Dolphins, 25-7, 25-6 and 25-15 for a clean 3-0 win-loss card.

Not to be outdone, the Blue Thunder also chalked up their third straight victory with a draining five-setter against the AMA University Titans, 25-18, 27-29, 22-25, 25-23 and 15-9. The PMMS Mariners likewise kept their three-game winning streak alive by handing the Titans a second straight defeat 24 hours later, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15 and 25-15.

Meanwhile, the Centro Escolar University Lady Scorpions stayed on pace with the Lady Thunder with a pair of victories themselves. CEU first survived the tough challenge of AMA, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-19, which was followed by a dramatic thriller against the Lady Mariners, 25-18, 25-18 and 28-26.

Also making their tournament debut were the Saint Clare College of Caloocan Lady Saints who split their two assignments. The Lady Saints had an easy time against the Lady Dolphins, 25-14, 25-9 and 25-17, but were sent back to reality by the NEU Huntresses the following day, 25-14, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-19.

The tournament takes a 10-day break and resume on February 22 (Monday) at the NEU Gym. Three matches in the Women’s Division will be played starting at 9:00 AM and capped by a Men’s Division clash between PCU and host NEU at 2:00 PM.
