ON THE heels of a successful staging of the MILO Marathon National Finals in Angeles City last year, organizers will now be bring the 40th edition of the country’s most prestigious footrace to the roads of Iloilo on December 4, 2016. It will be the fitting culmination to the six-month calendar that will see 13 regional qualifying races.
The first race will be on July 17 in Dagupan followed a week later by another in Tarlac. The much-awaited Metro Manila qualifiers will be on July 31.
There will be lesser qualifiers this season with no more legs in Baguio, Balanga, Calapan and Angeles. Batangas and Dumaguete will take the place of Lipa and Bacolod respectively.
As the host of the National Finals, Iloilo will no longer have a regional qualifier. The province has produced its share of champion runners led by former MILO Marathon Kings Jimmy de la Torre, Edwardo Buenavista and Herman Suizo.
Last month, Rafael Poliquit and Mary Joy Tabal successfully retained their titles of MILO Marathon King and Queen. Aside from the cash windfall, the fleet-footed pair will be the official Philippine representatives to the prestigious 120th Boston Marathon on April 18, 2016 in the United States.
MILO received a lot of positive feedback from participants who appreciated running in a new and challenging venue sans the early morning traffic and pollution of Metro Manila. Therefore, it was an easy decision to have the next National Finals in the provinces.
Below is the complete 40th MILO Marathon schedule so one may now start training and making travel arrangements. See you all on the road.
