IT’S NOWHERE to go but up for sensational Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year and top overall draft pick is definitely showing no signs of the dreaded sophomore jinx as he continues to up his performance as the key to the franchise’s future.

After 37 games into the season, the 6’8” guard is averaging a team-best 20.6 points a game which is an improvement from the 16.9 a year ago. His scoring is complemented by 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

To celebrate Wiggins’ stellar plays, adidas has launched a pair of new colorways for the popular Crazylight Boost 2.5 that honor his family and home court of Minnesota. Get ready for Marita and North Star.

The Marita is named after his mother, sprinter Marita Payne-Wiggins, who helped Team Canada capture the silver medals in the 400-meter and 1,600-meter relays in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. It is basically red with white, gold and silver accents and has the AW log on the tongue.

There is no doubt from where Wiggins inherited his athletic genes. His father Mitchell had a long NBA career beginning in 1983 followed by stints around the world including a 1994 stop in the Philippines for Ginebra just a few months before Andrew was born on February 23, 1995.

On the other hand, the North Star has the Timberwolves’ team color of two different shades blue with a metallic heel. According to its motto, the state is known as the Star of the North.

Both variants will have Primeknit uppers and of course, the revolutionary Boost technology that offers maximum cushioning and energy return. Such features should enhance the game of a young and intense player like Wiggins.

The 20-year old Wiggins heads the Timberwolves’ youth brigade as they hope to soon deliver Minnesota’s first championship since the then Minneapolis Lakers registered a three-peat from 1952 to 1954. With the way “Maple Jordan” is playing this season, he has a good chance of cracking the Western Conference roster for next month’s All-Star Game to be hosted by his birth city of Toronto.

The Marita and North Star are both now available at adidas stores, Titan, Planet Sports, Toby’s and the NBA Store. Suggested retail price is PHP 7,995.00.
