FOR THE first time ever, the annual NBA All-Star Game will be played outside of the United States with Toronto, Canada hosting the midseason classic from February 12 to 14, 2016 at the Air Canada Centre. Recently, adidas unveiled the official uniforms and apparel to be used in the event’s 65th staging.
The jersey’s designs are inspired by the host city’s rich heritage and basketball tradition. Fittingly, the host Toronto Raptors marked their 20th anniversary of existence this year after coming into the league as an expansion franchise in the 1995-1996 season.
Of course, Canada’s national symbol the maple leaf is a must have while the city’s skyline is also incorporated on the back design. The very simple font pays homage to the former Toronto Huskies, the city’s representative in the defunct Basketball Association of America (BAA).
The Huskies lasted for only one season and have the distinction of hosting the very first BAA game on November 1, 1946 against the New York Knicks. The BAA later merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949 to form today’s NBA.
Also present among the design elements is the Raptors’ claw mark. The home team East All-Stars will wear white with blue trim while the visiting West All-Stars will don red with white trim.
In another first, the jerseys will sport a logo of a sponsor outside of the outfit maker. Kia Motors is a long-time NBA partner and sponsors among others the league’s top individual awards.
The 65th NBA All-Star Game apparel collection will be available in the Philippines next month at selected adidas stores and online at the NBAStore.com. Price ranges are PHP 2,495.00 to PHP 3,495.00 for the jerseys and PHP 2,495.00 for the shorts.
