ADD NOW James Harden of the Houston Rockets to the growing list of adidas basketball ambassadors. The three-time All-Star guard recently formalized a long-term deal to don the iconic three stripes that is expected to change the game.
The timing cannot be any more appropriate. The 26-year old Harden is coming off a career season, his third with Houston, wherein he registered all-time personal highs of 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.7 blocks over 81 games.
Come the playoffs, the Rockets came to the their closest of returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1995, losing to the eventual champion Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals in five games. In Harden’s first two seasons in Houston, the team could not get past the opening round.
Harden broke into the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2009 Rookie Draft out of Arizona State University by the Oklahoma City Thunder. He spent three seasons with the Thunder before being traded to the Rockets just before the 2012-2013 season where he blossomed into an all-star.
While with Oklahoma City, Harden was named as the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2012 while helping the franchise to the 2012 NBA Finals, losing to the Miami Heat in five games. Harden has also donned the colors of Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 FIBA World Cup Spain.
“After meeting with adidas I knew we could create something people won’t see coming. They want to celebrate me for who I am and what I stand for. They want to help me be closer to my fans, tell my story and make incredible products together. This is my chance to do something that can’t be done anywhere else. I think of myself as a creator on the court and I’ve built a game different than any other player in the league. I see an opportunity to become one of the best players in the world – adidas is the partner who will help me get there. I can’t wait to get started,” said Harden, who has visited the Philippines a couple of times already.
Harden will be involved in several campaigns and will be seen on the court wearing the 2015 adidas Crazylight BOOST in Houston Rockets team colorways. A signature shoe may also be in the works as well as other apparel bearing his image and likeness.
Harden will definitely add more star power to the adidas roster that already counts all-stars Derrick Rose, John Wall, Damian Lillard and Kyle Lowry. Check out the exclusive adidas video of Harden on YouTube by clicking here.
