All Set for NCBL Quarterfinals

NCBL_logo     MANILA – The quarterfinal pairings of the Fourth National Collegiate Basketball League (NCBL) are officially all set after the completion of the classification phase Friday (August 21) at the Technological Institute of the Philippines Gym.   Despite the pairings determined as early as last week, the teams still gave out worthy performances that would give them momentum entering the crucial phase of the tournament.

Philippine Christian University created some shockwaves by trouncing Olivarez College, 67-51.  The Dolphins thus finished in Fourth Place at 4-6 and will play Manuel L. Quezon University on August 25 (Tuesday) starting at 10:00 AM.

Michael Ayonayon returned to active duty after a one-game suspension to scatter 23 points while Von Tambeling fired 15 for PCU.  JBoy Solis led the losing Sea Lions with 10 points followed by Pruvil Bermudes and Dwight Saguiguit with nine apiece.

Despite the loss, Olivarez remaining in Third Place and will play the winless Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology in the quarterfinals.  The Sea Lions ended up with a 6-4 win-loss card.

Undefeated Centro Escolar University and TIP-Manila claimed the two outright semifinal berths and will return to the court on Friday (August 25) against the quarterfinal survivors.  As the top seed, CEU will get to play the lower-ranked winner.

The Scorpions maintained their clean slate as they showed terrifying form against Manuel L. Quezon University, 86-37.  The CEU defense limited MLQU to single digits in the first three periods.

JR Aranas led all scorers with 22 points followed Sonny Boy Saber and Jason Opiso with 10 each.  The Stallions really struggled as Nikko Lao, Dennis Santos and JM Ambrosio were the high scorers with only six markers each.

In the first game, the home squad Engineers punished EARIST, 67-46.  TIP finished with a 7-3 record.

Nino Ibanez paced the Engineers with 13 points while Roldan Pinas added 10.  RJ Natividad topped the Red Fox with 14 followed by Israel Montealegre with 10.

The one-game NCBL Finals will be on September 1, 2015 (Tuesday).  Prior to the game, the tournament’s individual awardees will be recognized in simple ceremonies at 10:00 AM.
