THE STARS of the tennis universe will converge on the clay courts of Roland Garros for the 2015 French Open from May 19 to June 7. Local favorite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 2008 champion Ana Ivanovic of Serbia are among the players to look out for not only for their good play on the courts but also their fashion sense as they debut the adidas Y-3 Roland Garros Collection.
The pioneering collection will be a combination of adidas Tennis technology and the innovative and stylish designs of award-winning designer Yohji Yamamoto. Expect to see a lot of his classic signature black and white lines to go with the vivid, electric and ultra-bright Hawaiian floral prints of his Spring/Summer 2015 collection.
Playing under the hot summer sun, supreme ventilation and comfort will be brought about by the adidas Coolmax technology. Aside from apparel, the line also carries footwear and a wide range of accessories from wristbands to socks.
All eyes will be on French pride Tsonga, the world’s number 17 in singles and 190th in doubles. Reaching the Fourth Round in 2014, his countrymen are hoping for him to be the first French player to win the tournament since Yannick Noah in 1983, two years before Tsonga was born.
The 27-year old Ivanovic is currently ranked 13th in the world in women’s singles and 560th in women’s doubles. She hopes to improve on her performance last year where she reached the Third Round.
“At adidas Tennis, we’re always looking for ways to impact the game,” said Senior Director of adidas Tennis Graham Williamson. “The unexpected partnership of our high performance product with style and craftsmanship of Y-3 and Mr. Yamamoto is a great example. And there’s no better place to showcase this exciting collaboration than with our top players on the prestigious courts of Roland Garros.”
The adidas Y-3 Roland Garros Collection is already available locally at all adidas Sports Shops and online at adidas Philippines e-Shop.
