IN CELEBRATION of its Second Anniversary, the Pinoy Aspiring Runners (PAR) will give back anew as they host “Miles For Jeremiah”, a charity fun run on
January 11, 2015 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) grounds February 8, 2015 at the Blue Baywalk on Macapagal Avenue, Pasay City. True to its title, runners may choose to join distances denominated in 10, six and three miles.
Beneficiary of this noble project is the Jeremiah 33 Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Bro. Rey Ortega that caters to victims of juvenile rape. The young girls aged are housed in the foundation’s facilities in Pasig City where they undergo intensive rehabilitation and therapy until they are deemed fit to return to society.
Registration will begin on November 16 (Saturday) at Mizuno stores at the SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall, Olympic Village at SM City North EDSA and the newly-opened Garmin store in Glorietta 5. The race packet includes a specially-designed singlet and race bib.
Fees are set at PHP 800.00 for 10 miles, PHP 650.00 for six miles and PHP 550.00 for three miles. All finishers in all distances will receive die-cut medals with 10-milers grabbing a finisher shirt.
Slots are expected to be filled up fast as organizers have allotted provisions for a combined 2,500 total runners in all categories. Aside from the hosting PAR, several other running groups or clubs have thrown their support to the activity in a show of force and unity of the Filipino running community.
Established in 2013, PAR marked its first anniversary last January with a fun run that generated PHP 120,000.00 for the abandoned senior citizens of the Anawim Grace Foundation. In the last year alone, PAR’s membership has grown exponentially from 400 to over 700 registered members.
From a simple group of friends who wanted to join fun runs together, PAR has metamorphosed into organizing events of its own. Expect several more races in the coming months from an organizer that really knows the needs and wants of their fellow runners.
Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. (Jeremiah 33:6-7 NIV)
